A Case for Empathy

My Creative Process class includes an assignment to create something during each of the next 16 days (35 in all).  Many years have past since I wrote poems on a regular basis--I was in my 20's when I did so (I'm now 70).  My project will be to write a short poem each day and post it on this blog. I hope you will find them interesting.

Wayne - 1st Grade

A Case for Empathy

Unintended consequences abound
Within our pain-filled world
Better far to feel some pain
Than to walk oblivious
With callous hearts and minds
Amidst the cries of tortured friends.

The Realization of Dreams

My Creative Process class includes an assignment to create something during each of the next 17 days (35 in all).  Many years have past since I wrote poems on a regular basis--I was in my 20's when I did so (I'm now 70).  My project will be to write a short poem each day and post it on this blog. The Realization of Dreams

It slowly develops within the mind
That hoped for dreams hang like the moon
Outside the grasp of childish hands
But well within reach...Lord can it be?
Of countless chords of industry.

Turn About

My Creative Process class includes an assignment to create something during each of the next 18 days (35 in all).  Many years have past since I wrote poems on a regular basis--I was in my 20's when I did so (I'm now 70).  My project will be to write a short poem each day and post it on this blog. I hope you will find them interesting.

Turn About

It was a gracious "thank you" card
With little yellow birds in a green field
Drinking next a gold hand water pump
The handwritten note inside said:
"Thanks for all or your monumental support."
--Yet the day did not quickly end
And I had a need of his.

Independent Talk

My Creative Process class includes an assignment to create something during each of the next 19 days (35 in all).  Many years have past since I wrote poems on a regular basis--I was in my 20's when I did so (I'm now 70).  My project will be to write a short poem each day and post it on this blog. I hope you will find them interesting.

Independent Talk

This is Independence Day
And I'm god damned tired of independence chatter
Of silly talk by stiff necked people
Of self-made men going on an on
About their independence in the womb
About how they built main street all alone
And will one day quite satisfactorily
Place themselves within a tomb.

Kathy's Song

My memories of Kathy are never maudlin
So run the course of forever assets
That even in grief the cords hold strong
In downdrafts of sorrow
In updrafts of song.

For Carl

Descend into the night
Ascend into the heavens
We await in empty hallways

The precious sound of friends.

Bizarre Braggarts

My Creative Process class includes an assignment to create something during each of the next 22 days (35 in all).  Many years have past since I wrote poems on a regular basis--I was in my 20's when I did so (I'm now 70).  My project will be to write a short poem each day and post it on this blog. I hope you will find them interesting.

Bizarre Braggarts

I have heard the rich romanticize poverty
And the severe struggles of deprivations
Touching neighborhoods with only furtive visits
Relating happy tales of close escapes
Having more empathy for their pet hounds
Than for suffering children left in the streets.
